Data Usage Instructions

Our website is dedicated to providing centralized management and shared access services for brain science resource data. With the continuous advancement of brain science technology, massive amounts of brain data have emerged, providing a rich foundation for promoting brain science research and application. To effectively manage and protect these resource data, and to promote the orderly sharing and rational use of data, we have formulated these data usage instructions in accordance with relevant regulations such as the "Administrative Measures for Scientific Data". These instructions aim to clarify the rights and obligations of users when obtaining and using data, ensure the transparency and compliance of data use, and provide necessary guidance and support for researchers, thereby further promoting innovation and development in the field of brain science. We hope that through this mechanism, we can build an efficient and secure data sharing environment, enabling researchers to make full use of these valuable data resources and make positive contributions to the advancement of scientific research.

I. Data Access Types

We strongly agree with and are actively responding to various initiatives in the academic community for scientific data sharing. However, considering the diversity of data, it is still necessary to divide the data into three access types at this stage: Open Access, Controlled Access, and Registered Access. When browsing, obtaining, and using data, users need to pay attention to our labeling of data access types to accurately understand the differentiated requirements among different types of data.

(1) Open Access Type

Under normal circumstances, users can easily obtain data directly through public web pages or other service channels. These data are fully applicable to the Creative Commons V4 CC-BY-NC license, which means that data users can freely copy, distribute, and display this data, but they must indicate the source of the data in the specified manner and may not use it for commercial purposes.

The standard text of the agreement is available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/

(2) Controlled Access Type

Compared to the open access type, the controlled access type refers to data that cannot be obtained directly through public channels. Objective factors that lead to restrictions include but are not limited to: large data volume and computational requirements, data security, and additional requirements from data owners. After a user submits an application, we will do our best to help them obtain the data. For data that the user has already obtained, unless otherwise specified, the CC-BY-NC V4 license applies by default.

(3) Registered Access Type

This usually refers to data that has not been officially released, such as atlas projects under construction. This type of data is only accessible to all contributors through their accounts. If the metadata of the data has been made public, users can try to apply to the data owner through the relevant contact information on a case-by-case basis.

II. Data Usage Parameters

Data users can find data usage parameters on the dedicated page for the data, dataset, or atlas. These parameters can help users obtain and use the data in a more standardized way. These parameters include:

(1) Data Introduction: To briefly introduce the basic situation of the dataset;

(2) Contact Information: Provide the email of the contact person responsible for the dataset so that users can get support in a timely manner when needed;

(3) Data Publication Form: Clarify the data access type and format to which the dataset belongs to help users understand the characteristics of the data;

(4) Citation Information: Standardize how to cite the dataset in the literature to ensure that the contribution of the data provider is properly acknowledged;

(5) Acknowledgments: Provide examples and requirements to guide users on how to correctly express their gratitude to the data source in related works.
